Our bird feeders
and houses are extruded from marbled stoneware clay. The faces
are then sculpted when the clay is firm enough to handle. The
hats are made on a potters wheel, then altered to make a unique
cover that is removable for easy cleaning or filling. After firing
to nearly 2000f degrees and cooled, they are assembled and hung
with 1/4 inch sisal rope. All have drainage holes for 'indoor
plumbing ' and to help keep the bird seed or nest dry. The house
doorway is either up the nose or just under the hat in the back.
Birds don't seem to have a preference.
Birds dislike shiny, slick surfaces because of landing and maneuvering
problems, so, for the birds, we resist the urge to glaze our
product except for occasional accents. This makes working, durable,
earthtone 'yard-art' that can be used by birds and enjoyed by
you for years to come. |
